I finished

I finished the book a week ago and I am a lazy slacker who is only writing this now out of boredom and because Sarah threatened me. i enjoyed the book. Like Sarah said it is very different from the movie but I think that allowed me to enjoy it more. I normally have a hard time reading a book after seeing the movie because you know what is going to happen. The only thing I found in common with the movie is the list doesn't really change but a lot of what happens does. I love the family in the book, they each help Holly in their own way. The end started to get boring i had to make myself keep reading it. I did miss the huge fight that is in the movie I wish something like that were in the book. It helped to see what their relationship was like. The book only says that they loved each other very much which is fine but it helps to see how they were together. Anyways thats my opinion without giving away the story.

Not so sure

The whole reason I picked P.S. I Love You is because I love the movie. Apparently, I've made the colossal mistake of thinking a movie would be anything like the book. I am only a few chapters into the book but there are already huge difference from the movie.
The movie starts off with Holly and Gerry having a fight during which I immediately connected with Holly. In the movie, Holly's dad abandons them when she's14. During the fight Holly accuses Gerry of wanting to leave her, when they make up he tells her "You can't keep eatin' me head off, tellin' me to leave...I'm not goin' anywhere. I'm not your dad...don't you know that yet?" I love this becuase I can just imagine having arguments like this with the man I marry. Well, in the book Holly's parents are still married! My connection to Holly is completely thrown out the window.
Like I said I just started the book so hopefully I will come to appreciate it but I'm not sure b/c Holly's dad not being in the picture plays a huge role in the movie and in me loving the movie. We shall see.
Anyway, Jen and I are talking about renting P.S. I Love You while she and Frances are in town so maybe we can all get together and watch it.

What happens in London

I had the good fortune to win a pre-release e-book from author, Julia Quinn. Her newest story is about Lady Olivia and Sir Henry. It's a sequel to The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever. It's not really a sequel just has some of the same characters. I received the link for the e-book Sunday morning and I sat in front of my computer ALL DAY and finished the book by Sunday night. It was absolutely delightful. There were times when I laughed out loud. It's not what I call a "deep" book. There is not some major antagonist, yes things happen but it's not so cloak and dagger through out the book. And it's not one of those books where the main characters hate each other for most of it and never admit their love until the last page, I hate those books. This is a light hearted fun book!

P.S. I Love You (all of you girlies)

Hi homies! I bought our next book of the month. Has anyone else? I'm excited to start reading something new, as my life since November has been consumed with nothing but vampire novels/fanfiction. I'm not sure I remember what reading anything else is like. I am not going to start reading yet because I am a loser and still have a few chapters of Honest Illusions to finish up. For some reason I was having a hard time really enjoying the book this time around. That is...until Monday. I started reading at work and I was at the part where Luke comes back and asks Sam for time with his family and I was completely captivated again. That is my favorite part of the book - when Luke wins Roxy back and plans his revenge. I love Luke's connection with Nate. He is so tender with him. Anywho, somebody get on this blog and post besides Sarah and I!!

Talk to you soon, lovelies.

More Rob

Okay I know this has nothing to do with our book club. I'm mostly just posting this for Frances because the link was too long to twitter. Enjoy, I know I did!

To anyone still reading this blog

Jess (WTO) and I have claimed June and July. For June we will be reading P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern (chosen by me). For July we will be reading Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes (chosen by WTO). So this summer we will be traveling to New York, Ireland and Italy. It's up to Jen and Jessie (VFM) to decide where we will be traveling in August and September.
I've got a feeling Jen's going to send us to the highlands . . .

Interesting Combination

Well, the book is good but it moves kinda slow and I have a.d.d. We are going to see how this works out. *hopes for the best* Obviously, I spend too much time on twitter. Because I'm treating this more like an update than a blog. Maybe I just need to go to sleep. Jess is a bad influence on me.

C'est fini

I just finished the book and wow is it good. I wanted to cry, I wanted to yell, I realized somethings about myself. Apparently, I am one of those "cut off my nose in spite of my face" kind of people and I don't forgive easily, no matter the reason behind it. I'll wait for more discussion when everyone is finished!

Why I'm pleasantly surprised

Normally I like historical romances but I do read contemporaries every once and a while. Contemporaries meaning of this decade. This book was written in the 90's which means it should just be graduating high school in my mind, way too old for me. Also the copy I bought is kinda dingy and yellow which just adds to the oldness of it. Plus it's a Nora Robert book and I'm not a fan of authors with hundreds of books, ok not hundreds more like 65 but still that's an awfully lot of books.
I like to read books by authors who have a few on their list so I can read them all and feel like I "know" the author. To me books are like authors' children, they've created these very in depth characters and lives and stories, and in their own way they love each page as much as I do. I'm never impressed when I hear about a person with 18 kids, or an octomom, or Bradalina with their growing brood. How do you love every one of them equally? How do you make sure their needs are all adequately met? How do you remember their names? I tend to shy away from authors with tons of books because again how can it be possible for them to adequately love their books and if they don't love them why would I?
But all that is beside the point because I have found that I truly like this book. It's has a very in depth story plot. You immediately feel drawn to Luke (side note his name is the same name as another character by a different author, who I love, and so in my mind there was a bit of a speed bump but I got over it quickly.) His story is so sad and heart wrenching and you just want to take care of him. Max is awesome and his side business makes you think of Oceans Eleven. Roxanne is someone you can relate to because as she grows she has to prove herself to the family.
*** Maybe a spoiler but not really cause we all know the book is about Luke and Rox (just read the back description) and you realize they grow up together in the first few chapters. ***
The only problem I have is the fact that Luke and Rox are raised as brother and sister but eventually become romantically involved. And although Luke does have some problems with it being "emotionally incest" it doesn't stop him from fulfilling his needs. That's a bit icky for me, because it is kinda incest and he watched this girl grow up and it's just ODD. But all in all, the book is good and I'm looking forward to finishing it.

Where are the rest of our ladies?

I'm super happy that Jen likes my choice this month. A little hurt that she doubted me, though. *sniff* Oh, and don't just comment. Write posts, ladies! Jen tell us what you think so far since you are almost finished! Keep the spoilers to a minimum, please. Can't wait to see you and Sarah next Friday and Saturday. And now we get to see our Sarah WAY more often starting in August! Woo-hoo!!!

I want to put a pretty, pretty picture

Because I'm simple like that. I feel like a mom showing off her baby pictures. (Maybe not exactly like that.) Here's our first born:

Isn't she so cute?

We are up and running, my friends!

Ha. To all you nay-sayers (is that right??) who never believed, I spit in your face. Well, I at least huff at you. Here we are. Our book club commences.

Our first book, which everyone should know by now is Honest Illusions by Nora Roberts.

And I hereby declare that these shall be our deadlines:

May 19 - Through chapter 18, our first official "discussion" (by discussion I mean general silliness) will take place where all of us are present. Yes ALL. Crack the whip. We are the dominatrixies for a reason.

June 2 - Through chapter 35, sum up of the book

Since we are just beginning, this is just an guinea pig for future months.

Of course at any point if you really, really want to talk about how awesome the book is and how great Frances is for suggesting it, of course you can.

So let's start reading ladies!!
